SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Chipmaker SK Hynix Inc. reported a third consecutive quarterly loss as prices dropped amid competition from rival suppliers and tepid demand for personal computers.
The world's No. 2 chipmaker said Thursday it had a loss of 271 billion won ($238 million) in the January-March quarter. It reported a profit of 274 billion won a year earlier
Sales dropped 15 percent from a year earlier to 2.39 trillion won. Hynix's quarterly operating loss was 260 billion won.
But Hynix says launches of new smartphones and tablet computers and strong demand for mobile gadgets in China will drive the chip industry's rebound in coming months.
