More than 40,000 health apps exist and are expected to bring in $1.3 billion in 2012, according to a Research2Guidance report.
Scientists are still evaluating the benefits apps can have on fitness and health and are researching how to make health apps more effective in the future. At John Hopkins University alone, researchers are working on nine studies related to mobile health apps.
