Young Girls Like the Nexus 7, Too [VIDEO]

Google continues to flex its marketing muscle for its Nexus 7 Android tablet: first with a video commercial in July, then with a banner ad on its normally ad-free homepage, and now with a second video commercial, released Wednesday.

The ad, titled "Curiosity" and developed by ad agency Mullen, shows a young girl and her mother engaged in various activities of play, from reading Curious George and making lunch to video-conferencing with a relative and calculating the distance of the moon with the help of voice commands. The video concludes with the tagline, "The playground is open."

It's similar in theme and sentiment to the first Nexus 7 video ad, "Camping," which was also created by Mullen. The ad shows a father and son on a camping trip, using the tablet as a substitute flashlight, to read The Little Prince, to play checkers when it rains, to navigate with a compass and pull up satellite imagery. At the end of the ad, the camera shows that the father and son aren't in the woods but camping in the backyard -- which is not only adorable, but also clever. The Nexus 7 is a Wi-Fi-only device and wouldn't have been able to perform many of those functions without connecting to a Wi-Fi network.

(In an alternative scenario you could, I suppose, tether it to a smartphone or portable hotspot.)

Both ads portray the Nexus 7 as a family-friendly device, one that will help forge bonds between parents and children, and serve as an educational companion during playtime.

What do you think of the ad? Does it change your feelings about the device at all?
