For the lead-up to the new single "Thrift Shop," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis launched an Instagram contest asking people to submit photos of them with their most outstanding second-hand finds. In the song, Macklemore raves about his ability to find the best stuff at thrift stores. The contest challenges fans of his music and his style to join him in this pursuit.

The winner, Luke Rose, received a trip for him and a friend to Macklemore's home town of Seattle to attend the video premiere.

The contest tapped into Macklemore's considerable social media following. The rapper boasts some 200,000 likes on Facebook, 76,000 followers on Twitter and 32,000 on Instagram - impressive numbers for a rising artist without a major release yet to his name. Nearly 400 people entered the contest, with the above shot taking the thrift store crown for "the flags, the onezie, being in a thrift shop, the poses and overall creativity," Macklemore wrote on his blog.

However, he's been getting attention that suggests that his debut album The Heist will launch successfully. He was recently featured in the 2012 XXL Freshman Class, appearing on the cover of the magazine with the likes of Danny Brown, French Montana, and Iggy Azalea. In the 5-year history of the magazine's annual, signature feature celebrating up-and-coming rappers, artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, and B.o.B. have appeared on the cover have gone on to be some of hip-hop's most well-known names.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also recently released the single "Same Love" featuring Mary Lambert, a touching expression of support for gay marriage which has been played over 300,000 times on Soundcloud alone and is now featured on NPR's All Songs Considered.
