Watch out, Surface Pro. Sony has its own Windows 8 hybrid in the works.

The company announced on Wednesday the Vaio Duo 11 -- part Ultrabook, part tablet. The concept is not unusual; many companies are readying hybrids for the release of Windows 8. What makes the Duo 11 more unique is that it supports a pressure-sensitive digital stylus.

Sony says users can swap the tips on the stylus to differentiate between a softer or firmer feel. The Duo 11 also supports handwriting recognition in support apps.

A lot of this sounds pretty similar to Microsoft's Surface Pro. The big difference with the Duo 11 is that instead of a keyboard cover, it slides out -- which is customary for most hybrid devices.

The machine itself is your standard Ultrabook. The Vaio Duo 11 sports an i7 processor, 4 or 8 GB or RAM and a 128 or 256GB SSD.

The 11.6-inch screen features super-high 1920x1080 resolution. That makes it one of the highest-density Ultrabooks we've seen. The Duo 11 also includes the other standard Ultrabook features, including USB 3, HDMI out and Bluetooth 4.0.

The Vaio Duo 11 will be out by the end of October 2012. The price hasn't been announced, but given the specs, we'd expect this to be on the pricier end of the spectrum.
