Facebook, Twitter Get a Visit From Republican Majority Whip [VIDEO]









Republican House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, an active social media user, dropped by Facebook and Twitter's co-working space at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday afternoon.

Facebook's Katie Harbath gave McCarthy a look at the brand new Facebook/CNN political analytics platform, while Twitter's Adam Sharp explained the Twitter Political Index, or "Twindex."


"I think social media's impact on politics is growing every day," McCarthy told Mashable at an earlier RNC event sponsored by Facebook, Microsoft and other tech companies. "It empowers individuals to engage with a campaign without being in the campaign, and it lets [elected officials] communicate with our constituents in a new way."

McCarthy, who once visited Facebook's California headquarters with Paul Ryan, also picked up some swag -- including a self-made t-shirt with his own Twitter handle, @GOPwhip:
