With the acquisition of 80/20, Square gains a new in-house design team with impressive backgrounds working on design not only at 80/20 but also big names such as Apple and Adobe.

80/20, which specializes in user interface design, has worked with a host of technology companies to build better, more user-friendly products. For instance, the company worked with Motorola to create the Motoactv, the company’s Bluetooth-enabled fitness device. It also worked with Warner Brothers to create Digital Everywhere, which allows you to store your entire movie collection in the cloud, and Sonar Mobile to create an over-the-air portal for customers to select only the mobile features they need.

“In every project, we’ve started with the belief that the best design gets out of the user’s way and that you can craft unforgettable user experiences by keeping things simple and obsessing over the details,” reads a post on 80/20’s website announcing the acquisition.

“The natural next step for 80/20 is to commit our focus to one company, and Square is a perfect fit. Square shares our passion for using technology and design to improve people’s lives. Together, we will reimagine and redesign how people communicate through commerce everyday, all around the world.”

Last week Square closed a more than $200 million fundraising round, which now values the company at $3.25 billion. It also recently announced a partnership with Starbucks to bring its mobile payments service to 7,000 of the coffee chain's locations.
