The Next Nexus Phone May Be Made By LG [REPORT]

The next Nexus smartphone to hit the market may be made by LG.

Following in the footsteps of the recently announced LG Optimus G, rumors point to the phone having a Qualcomm quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera.

According to CNET, Google and LG will unveil the handset at the end of the month.

The Nexus line of smartphones are used to showcase pure Android, without any sort of software put on top of it by the device manufacturer or carrier. Samsung made the last two Nexus smartphones, the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S.

Not exclusively a Samsung show, the first Nexus smartphone, the Nexus One, was manufactured by HTC in 2010. Asus also got to try its hand at making a Nexus device earlier this year with the release of the Nexus 7 tablet.

If the rumors are true, however, this would be LG’s first crack at creating a device for the series.

Traditionally not a popular device-maker in the United States, creating a Nexus device could help LG gain some more name-recognition and traction in the U.S. smartphone space.

AT&T announced Wednesday that it would be carrying the LG Optimus G. The phone is one of the first to use Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon processor, and comes with 32GB of built-in storage that can be expanded to a whopping 80GB with a microSD card.
