"I'm sorry, Jim, I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS," Romney said to Jim Lehrer, the debate moderator and Executive Editor at the PBS NewsHour. "I'm going to stop other things. I like PBS, I love Big Bird. Actually I like you, too. But I'm not going to -- I'm not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for [it]."

With that statement, Romney implied that the future of PBS, Lehrer and Big Bird might be in danger. Internet users, and Sesame Street fans, immediately flocked online to air their outrage. They created parody Twitter accounts like @FiredBigBird and funny GIFs to show support for the newly endangered fictional bird.

Now there's even an Indiegogo campaign to save Big Bird. Cleverly named "Keep Your Mitts Off Of Big Bird!," the campaign pledges to donate all funds received to PBS. "If we can build a Goddamn Tesla Museum, we can keep Sesame street on the air," the campaign wrote.
