Spiderman -- the superhero of the social web -- celebrated this week 50 years of of web-shooting and saving the world.
Spiderman, also known as Peter Parker, made his debut on August 10, 1962. Since then, movies about the Marvel character have brought in billions of dollars worldwide and his comics remain coveted collectors items. In fact, the most pricey Spiderman comic is valued at $1.1 million and it would cost more than $5,600 each year to insure it.

Spidey is often much-discussed on social media sites. According to data conducted by analytics company Networked Insights, Spiderman was recently named the most popular Marvel character on sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

A new infographic by MoneySupermarket.com highlights how Spidey has evolved over the years, especially when it comes to trying new suits, from his classic lycra and spandex suit with web shooters under his wrists, to an iron suit given by Tony Stark (Iron Man).
