Have you noticed that Apple's much-debated "Genius" ads have disappeared from the Olympics?

Well, you're not imagining things. A rep for TBWA/Media/Arts Lab, Apple's ad agency, says the ads are not running anymore, but that was the plan all along. The ads were intended only for a "first run" during the Olympics, which meant just the first weekend of the Games, the rep says.

Apple could not be reached for comment.

The company, known for its brilliant marketing, got some flak for the new round of ads when they premiered during the opening weekend of the Games. The three commercials show a “Genius,” someone you would encounter at your Genius Bar appointment, in other settings where his savvy comes to the rescue.

The ads got an uncharacteristically tepid reception online. After a few prominent blogs trashed them, YouTube commentators weighed in with heavy "dislike" to "like" ratio. For instance, the latest Siri ad, featuring Martin Scorsese, got close to 6,000 likes vs. around 700 dislikes. In comparison, one of the new ads entitled "Basically" got an almost equal number (around 4,000) of likes and dislikes.
