Mashable Photo Challenge: Texture

When most people think of texture, they imagine an object's feel or consistency. However, texture is more than just how an object feels. Think of silky fur, intricate wood grain or the whisper-thin wrinkles of a leather bag. You can see texture, too.

Objects can be soft, fuzzy, smooth, rough, bumpy and even sticky. Take a close look at the objects you encounter every day. Everything from a porous ceramic coffee cup to the sleek contours of your laptop has a unique texture.

For this week's Mashable Photo Challenge we would like you to build on that idea. So, be on the lookout for opportunities to capture the feel of something.

The best texture photos communicate how an object feels or what it would be like to touch it. For example, a close up on a grain of salt shows sharp angles; a tweed jacket shows the way the fibers interlock.

Send us your photos that show the physical quality of an object. Get up close and personal with the world around you and submit your photos of texture.

How to Enter the Challenge

  • Take a picture that shows texture.

  • Tweet your photo to @mashablehq with the hashtag #MashPics. If you need more than one tweet to write your caption, just send us another tweet. OR

  • Drop your photo into the picture widget below.

We will choose images based on composition, originality and overall appeal.

Submit your photo by Wednesday, June 20 at 12:00 p.m. EST. We'll feature some of our favorite photos on Mashable, as well as on our Facebook page. We can't wait to see your photos!
