Fans of the Avengers and social gaming can now play as both their favorite movie characters and the traditional comic book versions of the superheroes in the popular Avengers Alliance Facebook game.
Marvel just announced movie-themed versions of Captain America, Hulk, Thor and others from the Avengers team. Their uniforms offer a sleeker, more futuristic take on the old-school comic uniforms that were previously the game's only option. The Black Widow and Hawkeye uniforms went live first, with other heroes to follow.

Avengers Alliance launched on Facebook in March and now claims 1.2 million daily users. In the role-playing game from Playdom, users can compete with friends as they assemble teams to defend New York City from enemy attack. Players can also pay real money for virtual currency to use for character upgrades and other advantages.

One of this spring and summer's most anticipated blockbuster movies, Marvel's The Avengers premiers May 4. In March, a trailer for the filme broke iTunes viewing records. There's also an augmented reality Avengers app for iPhone and Android that lets fans step into superhero shoes. Now, with the new additions to the Avengers Alliance Facebook game, Marvel aficionados get one more way to express their enthusiasm.
